The Adirondacks
The Adirondacks
Although the Adirondacks’ highest point, Mt. Marcy, is only 5,344 feet above sea level, the ‘Dacks are serious mountains. Kate and I climbed Mt. Marcy in the winter, on snowshoes, 36 years after Lynn and I did the same. The hike from the trailhead to the summit is 14.8 miles round trip and 3,200 feet in one-way elevation change, making for a long day hike on snowshoes.
Kate and I stayed at the picturesque but comfortable Adirondack Loj; in 1973, Lynn and I camped in a leanto.
